Chemical salts in Brazil

This plant uses waste CO2 to produce a range of chemical salts – such as sodium bicarbonate, ammonium bicarbonate and calcium carbonate.

How it works

Carbon dioxide is an important raw material for producing chemical salts. This process uses CO2 that previously would have been released into the atmosphere – and so cuts overall emissions.

The project also uses renewable electricity and steam in the production process, via bagasse power generation.
